Christians and Politics – A Commentary by Pastor Rafael Cruz

Pastor Rafael Cruz shared a sobering message during our weekly Bible study at the Patriot Mobile headquarters about why Christians should vote. On May 6, Texas will hold its uniform election to vote for mayors, school board members, and city council members. While often overlooked, local elections have the most impact on our communities. Several states will also hold elections this year to vote for mayors, governors, city council members, state legislators, and more. Be sure to make your voice heard and vote!

Christians and Politics – Who really votes?

Now I’ll tell you I can’t close this day without just sharing for a couple of minutes about the darkness that is so pervasive in this country. We are seeing such evil propagating in this country and it is our fault. It is our fault.

According to George Barna, who is the foremost statistician in the Christian world, 50% of Christians are not even registered to vote. And of the 50% that are registered to vote, only 50% go to the polls and vote. That means that three out of four Christians are not even voting.

What is happening is our fault and let me say something publicly. Please do not repeat this statement. This statement is the biggest copout in Christendom, and that statement is: “God is in control.” God is in control is the excuse that Christians use to sit on their rear end and do nothing. And that is not even biblical.

Christians and Politics – What the Bible says about politics

Let me tell you what is biblical. God has given us a stewardship responsibility over this earth. The Christian life is all about stewardship. The very first command of God to Adam was, you take care of the garden, you tend to the garden and keep it. That’s a stewardship responsibility. In Genesis 1:28, God gives us a stewardship responsibility over all of his creation. We are to be stewards of everything.

And let me tell you, I am so proud to be an American. I love this country with a passion. America is the only country on the face of the earth that was founded as a Christian country. The very first sentence of the Mayflower Compact states our purpose is “for the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith.” America was birthed as a Christian country, but we have seen our Christian foundations systematically destroyed. The word of God says, “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

Well, I’ll tell you what, there’s much that Christians can do. The righteous, first of all, just like Samuel Adams said, “It does not take a majority to prevail, but only an irate, tireless minority keen on setting brush fires of liberty in the minds, and I like to add, in the hearts of men.” We need to get on fire for the Lord and we need to be salt and light to an insipid and darkened world. Our generation is being destroyed with all kinds of ungodliness.

Christians and Politics – Consequences of not speaking out

We’re seeing now that it’s even gotten to the point that they are telling girls, “You’re not really a girl, you’re a boy.” They’re telling boys, “You’re not really a boy, you’re a girl.” And we have now children being mutilated and basically saying, God made a mistake. This is an abomination before God.

We cannot remain silent. God is going to judge us for our silence. It is imperative that we, as Christians, make sure that we, number one, recruit strong, committed believers that are going to govern according to the word of God in every position in government. And let me start with the two most important: the school board and City Council. All politics is local.

Our children are being destroyed for lack of knowledge. They’re being destroyed with all this evil that is so pervasive in our schools, and it’s coming from the very top of this administration. When this administration is telling teachers, “When those children are in your classroom, they belong to you, they don’t belong to their parents,” that’s an abomination. And when they are telling the school board administrators, “You need to help the teachers to assist the children in gender transition without telling the parents, I say, not on my watch! And you should say the same thing.

We need to stand and we need to move forward and we need to retake America. Forget this statement, “God is in control.” No, God has given you and me a stewardship responsibility in this country. Let us be salt and light, and let’s take this country back to the glory of God!
